Row House Renovation

The client for this project studied art history and loved the combination of old and new. This 700 square foot, 11 foot-wide row house felt cramped, outdated and in need of some character to match its beautiful, worn brick exterior. In the front room, we took the opportunity to uncover the second floor joists to make the small space feel taller. Lighting was attached to tension cables in between joists to provide overhead light without taking up height. Hidden behind the wall, we also uncovered the old chimney used to heat the house and exposed that with a whitewash paint finish.

The kitchen was in need of renovation, so the layout was adjusted to make the space functional and create more storage. Storage was maximized in the kitchen as much as possible, including behind, above and next to the fridge. Shallow base cabinets were utilized at the back wall of the kitchen so there was room for both a dishwasher and a large farmhouse sink. Glass cabinet doors, farmhouse hardware and pops of color create the style mash-up the owner loves.
